The Berufsfortbildungswerk Gemeinnützige Bildungseinrichtung des DGB GmbH (bfw) was founded in 1953 and is one of the major vocational training and further education institution in Germany, owned by the Trade Union Association DGB. The objectives are to improve career opportunities, avoid periods of unemployment by offering training and retraining and assist structural changes.

 

Bfw has three subsidiary companies and is represented with 30 branch offices and about 150 educational centres all over Germany. In its qualification and training programmes it has about 55.000 participants per year. The offers reach from training in commercial-administrative qualification, manufacturing and technical qualifications, qualifications for education, social work and health professions to individual consulting for corporate clients.

 

In order to implement new and innovative approaches bfw initiates and takes part in projects on a European, national and regional level. Pirkanmaa Westcome operates in an area of six municipalities in the West Tampere region in Finland. The Adult Education Unit is an independent department alongside other educational institutes.

Adult Education Unit provides wide-ranging, modern and dynamic adult education in the West Tampere region to approximately 1000 students every year. LPKKY offers a choice of around 100 different courses taking place daytimes, evenings and weekends.

Pirkanmaa Westcome, Adult Education Unit runs vocational, further education and labour market training courses for company personnel as well as organizes apprenticeship studies in the region. Adult Education Unit participates in many national and international projects.

The company deals with consulting services related to adult training, development of foreign language training methods and introduction of modern training methods into practice. Euroinform has many years experience in educational projects cooperation and particularly in Socrates and Leonardo programmes. The company participates as a partner or promoter in projects, mainly in the field of adult training, design and delivery of foreign language teaching materials, including interactive courses and language training to learners with special needs and other disadvantaged groups. The company is a coordinator of a number of Socrates Lingua and Grundtvig projects. Its "Listen and Touch" project received the European Language Label, was selected among the 50 European good practices motivating language learning and has been awarded the silver award of the European Commission. Euroinform is also involved in a number of initiatives related to the training of persons in disadvantaged position on labour market.
